The Omega Sector rank system is a unique and somewhat complicated one that departs from the traditional rank system of most Star Trek centric bulletin boards. Rather than use the fairly common Starfleet Officer ranks, we've created a system that utilizes a variety of the vessels of Star Trek. How exactly did we develop the system? That is where the 'somewhat complicated' comes in.

If you where to rank ships throughout Trek from multiple time periods either on chronology or technical capability alone, you would come up with a fairly flawed system. However, by combining the two you get a considerably more accurate picture. Which is just what we have done. This page not only lays out that system for you to quickly and easily see, but provides some brief information about each rank to help explain it as well.

Another reason for this page is to serve as a guide for those who choose to display their Omega Sector Fleet. What is an Omega Sector Fleet? A small collection of rank images displayed in an individuals signature, designed to serve as a place for individuals to showcase either their favorite, or most powerful ranks. An individual user may choose to display three of their past rank images - ranks they have already held - including or up to their current rank - side by side in their Omega Sector Signature. Substitutions of either alternate images of an Omega Sector Rank ship, or use of ships not within the Omega Sector ranks, is not permitted.

The 'proper' layout for these ranks consist of one rank image (complete with it's UBB code as seen below each rank further down this page), followed by a single space, the second (or middle) rank image, another single space, and then the third and final rank image. Above those images, designed to line up exactly with those three rank images in 'proper' configuration, is the following animated banner:

Identification: The Phoenix; Prototype Warp Ship Affiliation: Human Time Frame: 2063 Advantages: First Warp Capable Human Vessel Rank: 0 to 25 Posts On April 5, 2063, this vessel - Earth's first warp capable ship - was launched from Bozeman, Montana by it's creator, Doctor Zefram Cochrane. Cochrane himself piloted the simple craft on it's sole space flight that morning at approximately 11 AM (local time) and successfully broke the warp barrier. This accomplishment not only ushered in a new era for humanity, but captured the attention of a passing alien ship, which then altered it's course to make peaceful first contact. Identification: NX-Class Starship Affiliation: Human, Starfleet Time Frame: 2150s - 2160s Advantages: First Warp 5 Capable Human Vessel Rank: 25 to 50 Posts In the early days of human space exploration, the NX-Class represented the first true opportunity for humanity to explore the galaxy. The first ship of it's kind, the Enterprise NX-01, made monumental strides in expanding the role of the human race into the interstellar community. Equipped with the most advanced technology available to humanity at the time, the NX-01 under Captain Jonathan Archer was key to both the defense of Earth from the Xindi threat, as well as the formation of the United Federation of Planets. Identification: Kumari-Class Affiliation: Andorian Imperial Guard Time Frame: 2140s - 2180s Advantages: Tractor Beam, Particle Beam Weapons Rank: 50 to 100 Posts Superior in comparison to the most advanced human vessels of the time, the Kumari-Class warship was the pinacle of the Andorian fleet. Capable of reaching speeds above Warp 5, and equipped with such advanced technologies as particle beam weapons and tractor beams, this class of warship was named for the first ice cutter to circumnavigate Andor. Identification: D'Kyr-Class Affiliation: Vulcan High Command Time Frame: 2140s - 2200s Advantages: Warp 7 Capable, Deflector Shields Rank: 100 to 150 Posts Of all the vessels in the Vulcan fleet, the D'Kyr-Class combat cruiser was easily the most advanced and most often utilized by the Vulcan High Command. Though similarly equipped to the rival Andorian Kumari-Class in terms of weapons and composition, the D'Kyr-Class was superior when it came to both speed and defensive systems, capable of speeds up to warp 7 and equipped with deflector shields at a time when only hull polarization was common. Identification: Daedalus-Class Starship Affiliation: Starfleet, United Federation of Planets Time Frame: 2160s - 2190s Advantages: Warp 7 Capable, Deflector Shields Rank: 150 to 200 Posts Many changes and advances came upon the birth of the United Federation of Planets. The Daedalus-Class Federation starship was just one of them. As the NX-Class was retired, the Daedalus-Class took on the mantle of interstellar representation and exploration on behalf of the newly formed Federation. The first vessels to bare USS and NCC, the Daedalus-Class was also the first ship constructed with cooperation and shared technology between the various allies - such as Vulcan, Human, and Andorian - that made up the Federation. Identification: Bird-of-Prey Affiliation: Romulan Star Empire Time Frame: 2260s - 2300s Advantages: Cloaking Device, Plasma Torpedo Launcher Rank: 200 to 250 Posts What the Romulan Bird-of-Prey lacks in versatility, she makes up for in stealth and fire power ten fold. Equipped with a cloaking device, a device which the Romulans claim to have invented - though the claim can not be substantiated - this vessel can be rendered, for all intents and purposes, invisible to both sensors and the naked eye. However, this massive advantage comes at an equally massive consumption of the ships power supply. Additionally, her single weapons system - a sole Plasma Torpedo Launcher - can inflict more damage in one shot than most ships can with their entire weapons array. Identification: Constitution-Class Starship Affiliation: Starfleet, United Federation of Planets Time Frame: 2240s - 2290s Advantages: 5-year Mission Capability, Advanced Mission Facilities Rank: 250 to 300 Posts The legendary Constitution-Class starship served as both the backbone of Starfleet, and as the most advanced class of Federation starship, for the better part of a half century. Equipped for long term 5-year missions without support, unheard of crew accommodations, and state-of-the-art scientific and diplomatic capabilities, the Constitution-Class represented the best the Federation had to offer. Of course the most famed vessel of this class was the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, which was made legend by her equally legendary Captain and Crew. Identification: Klingon Battle Cruiser Affiliation: Klingon Empire Time Frame: 2260s - 2300s Advantage: Cloaking Device Rank: 300 to 350 Posts The classic and intimidating design of the Klingon Battle Cruiser has survived and been recycled for over a century. The first battle cruiser to use the design was the Vorok-Class of the 2150's. The second, the famed D-7 battle cruiser of the 2240's through 2260's. Finally, the K'tinga-Class of the 2270's through 2290's, of which the Klingon Flagship Kronos One belonged to. Though equipped with cloaks, Klingon Battle Cruisers rarely used them, favoring the bold and intimidating direct approach. Identification: Miranda-Class Starship Affiliation: Starfleet, United Federation of Planets Time Frame: 2270s - 2280s (Cntd. Service, 2370s) Advantage: Maneuverability Rank: 350 to 425 Posts The versatile and nimble Miranda-Class cruiser was one of the backbones of Starfleet for the better part of a century, serving in a variety of configurations and duties. Originally tasked for border patrol and survey missions, the Miranda-Class evolved to fit Starfleet's ever-changing needs. This adaptablity ensured the class continued operation well into the mid-to-late 24th century. At it's prime in the 2280's the Miranda-Class helped to bridge the gulf between the aging Constitution-Class, and the (then experimental) Excelsior-Class, when neithers fate was certain.
